TEAR IT DOWN
Remember, there is only one foundation, the one already laid: Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:11—
The foundation by which a house is built determines whether or not it can stand. My reality is I’m still struggling with this one. I don’t necessarily even mean a house, it could be a relationship, business or anything else you may be building. If the foundation isn’t solid, more than likely neither will the relationship, house or the business be.
When building a house, the foundation doesn’t change unless you tear it down and start all over. You can change the interior decorations, renovate parts of house and even paint the exterior but the foundation stays the same. Well, with that said, I realize my foundation was built on ideas based on my childhood experiences. Even deeper, those ideas shaped me into the person I was.
I allowed certain things to occur because I cared more about what others thought than what I knew to be true. I stayed in situations that I knew weren’t best for me because I thought I could change things on my own. I conformed to the idea of what I thought a wife should be instead of consulting with the ONE who created marriage in the first place. I hid who I was and what I believed because I allowed fear to paralyze me instead of standing on the Word of God, speaking that word and trusting that I already had everything I needed.
I understand that God wasn’t a part of the foundation on which I had built my life initially. I included Him in decisions I had already made instead of including Him in the decision-making process. I asked Him to bless my mess instead of consulting with Him first so I wouldn’t have to deal with the mess in the first place.
So, here’s what happening. My house didn’t stand nor did my marriage but I’m still here which means I still have the opportunity to rebuild the foundation on which I stand. If you haven’t noticed, I love music and I believe there is a song for everything. The lyrics playing in my mind now are:
My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
On Christ the solid rock I stand
all other ground is sinking sand
All OTHER GROUND IS SINKING SAND!
