YOU. JUST. WAIT.
“Truly my soul waiteth upon God: From him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.”
Psalm 62:1-2 KJV
Alright, here we go. I have a hard time with waiting. In fact, those closest to me know, that if you tell me, “I have something to tell you”, you have to tell me now because I won’t be able to wait. I can literally overthink myself into every scenario possible which sometimes can create anxiety. I’m growing but I understand that there are still some things that I have to work on. I have been following Susan Larson’s devotionals for the past few months and somehow every one of them seem to be spot on with this season of transition in my life. There was one recently that really stood out to me. Of course, the whole devotional was meant for me, but three words captivated my attention.
You. Just. Wait.
I’m sure you could interpret those words in many different ways. However, I understood them to mean have patience. I tend to want things to happen right away, but I’m learning that patience builds character with qualities like self-control, humility and generosity. Your circumstances may require additional time for you to calm down so you’re not making decisions or reacting off emotions. Perhaps you are right on the verge of your breakthrough, and you just have to hold on a little while longer. Maybe your attitude during the wait determines the outcome of your situation.
The NLT version of Psalm 62:1-2 says:
I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.
I read that, patience is quiet hope and trust that things will turn out right. So, I have to wait without complaining and I’ve had several situations come up this week, where I’ve had to do just that. And might I add that it worked out in my favor each time. Those three words have now inspired me to be patient and trust in God’s timing. I’m confident that God can do ANYTHING. And WHENEVER and, HOWEVER he chooses to do it, will be His perfect timing and His perfect will.
You! Just! Wait!
The Lord is good to those who wait [confidently] for Him,
To those who seek Him [on the authority of God’s word].
